CLAY DAY & OTHER EVENTS

Clay Day 2011:

Well, the weather was a distinct improvement on Clay Day 2010 and that really helped our charity fund raising day.

The theme this year was 'feathered friends' and - quite surprisingly - the most popular feathered friend turned out to be chickens! We did have a few owls and robins - oh yes and one dog (don''t ask!)

Dominic was also kept busy all day with a record number of clay bowls thrown. We raised £136 for the RSPB. Thank-you for supporting the event. Unfortunately I forgot my camera on the day so if any of you have taken pictures, it would be great to have a few for the web site........

Summer 2011

My second charity event has taken part over the summer. To raise funds for the Africa appeal I decided to clear out lots of old painted items that I no longer stock as well as uncollected items - some of which I have had for years!

Most of the items were sold for 50p, £1 or £2 and surprisingly I have raised £106.50 in the space of just a few weeks. It has been quite amazing how quickly things went - and what people will buy for a good cause! I found myself rumaging in cupboards to and boxes to find other odds and ends to sell.

Christmas 2011

We are planning a Christmas event or two at Eyam Hall and the Craft Centre. Dates haven't been confirmed yet, but watch this space!

Clay Day 2010

Well the weather could have been better for our 2010 Clay Day event, now in it's fourth year, but it didn't stop Anna and her dad from having a go. Click on the thumbnail below to see more pictures.

Anna and her dad - the one smiling - a team effort to make the pot!

Despite the cold, wet and at times hail...... 22 pots were thrown and 19 cats and dogs made of all shapes and sizes.

We raised £100 for this years charity 'Smile Train'.

Many thanks to all those who supported the event.

This year the money we raisde goes to 'Smile Train', an organisation that pays for children in under-developed countries to have minor surgery to correct birth defects such as cleft lips. It costs £150 for one such operation so that is our target for this year. Of course it would be great if we could fund Two...!

Check out the Smile Train web site www.smiletrain.org.uk for more information and stories, pictures and videos of the work they do.

Have a look at the clay day gallery for some of our previous years 'happy potters.'

Please note that it is not possible to book in for his event - 'first come, first served' applies. Last year we were very busy so come early to ensure you get your chance to have a go. Again, we will be open from 10.30 until around 4 and will have a short break around 1pm for lunch.

Please bear in mind that pottery made on the day has to be left to dry and be fired.  This could take 2-3 weeks.  If you are unable to call back to collect then items can be posted on to you for a small charge.
