ABOUT US

Hello, my name is Gail Piper and I run The Painted Plate,
a ceramic painting studio located at Eyam Hall Craft Centre in the historic village of Eyam in Derbyshire.

I first visited the studio as a customer and was promptly hooked.  Be warned - ceramic painting can become addictive!

I found the activity very relaxing and enjoyed the artistic challenge of experimenting with colour and various decorative techniques. I quickly realised however that just doing the painting was not enough. After working part-time in the studio for 15 months I took over the business itself in 2005.

Although I would not describe myself as an artist, I have always been creative, enjoying various crafts over the years and more recently gaining City and Guilds design qualifications. But the thing I like best about ceramic painting is that you do not need any training or qualifications to enjoy it or to achieve some stunning effects.

Check out the Gallery Slideshows – these have all been painted by visitors to the studio.

We can all paint – it’s something we all did at school and probably enjoyed it too!  Come along to the studio and have a go – it may be your masterpiece on display in one of our Galleries next year!

I look forward to meeting you...

Gail Piper, The Painted Plate

ABOUT THE CRAFT CENTRE

The Painted Plate is located in one of several traditional stone built farm buildings, converted to form Eyam Hall Craft Centre. The Craft Centre houses a number of other working craft units, a gift shop and café clustered around a pleasant courtyard – the old farmyard!

The Painted Plate is accessible by disabled customers, as are several of the other craft units, and disabled facilities are on site. There is also a pleasant picnic area and picnic benches for use by Craft Centre visitors.

ABOUT EYAM

Eyam - famous for its historical connection to The Plague – is the third most visited village in the Peak District. There are many attractions in the village to inform and educate visitors including a museum, Eyam Hall – a delightful family owned manor house – of course a Church, as well as the ‘Plague Cottages’. An audio guided tour of the village is also available.
